What’s a Geopark?

A “Park showing what nature provides” where we can observe and enjoy the features of a region from the formation of the earth through time including the history of people settled here

The word, Geopark, is coined from two words “earth (Geo)” and “Park”, meaning a park representing all of nature at the location and where we can learn about and enjoy, to our heart’s content, the nature provided by the earth (Geo).
On Earth (Geo), in every region, there are plants and animals forming ecosystems (Eco) allowing us (Humans) to live and develop culture and industry. At a geopark like in Mikasa you have an opportunity to learn about how these three elements, Geo, Eco, and Humans are interlinked.
At the geopark here the important features are designated as “Geosites”, protecting the site and affording all visitors access to the geological heritage in a sustainable manner.
The Geosites are promoted for and contribute to education and tourism through activities like geotours. In the Mikasa Geopark we conduct activities to invigorate the region and ensure that residents can appreciate the glories of the region.
